This November 23-24, at the Excel in London, Thermaco will be exhibiting our current range of active & passive cooling modules and drivers for LED lighting from three of the manufacturers that we represent in the UK.

Sunon – manufacturer of high quality cooling fans & active thermal modules. On display will be our range of standard active cooling modules, designed for and approved by LED lighting module manufacturers around the world. Apart from enhanced performance, designing an active cooling module into your luminaire offers additional benefits; a smaller, lighter and potentially lower cost product and has ultimately been the choice of some of the UK’s largest retailers. Custom designs are welcome and our engineers are at your disposal to offer the complete package of thermal analysis, product design and manufacture.

Mingfa Tech – specialist manufacturer of passive cooling solutions. We will exhibit our standard range of heat sinks including the BuLED; incorporating a heat sink and housing the BuLED has been designed as a compact replacement for the traditional MR16 light fitting, and the HibayLED; designed for high lumen outputs, up to 31,000lm. Thanks to its vacuum phase-transition technology the HibayLED is 30% smaller and lighter than traditional high bay heat sinks and boasts as low as 0.11°C/W thermal resistance.

To compliment our thermal solution products, Thermaco will also display a range of LED drivers from Ying Jiao. Ying Jiao design and manufacture products from 6W to 200W within four ranges; Standard, Economic, Dimmable and Waterproof. Dimmable options include 0-10V, PWM, DALI &Triac, whilst waterproof are rated to IP67.

Hidria launches their new EC, R14 motor for large axial fans

Hidria Rotomatika has recently introduced their new range of energy efficient EC motors, size R14, for 500 – 800mm Axial Fans.

In 2004 Hidria successfully industrialised a new generation of Hidria EC axial fans (HEC), combining top level design with advanced fan operating functionality. Thus, the product design solution was awarded with the Red Dot award for Product Design 2014.

Now through a constant process of development and improvements, Hidria has taken another important step forward in EC technology by developing a stronger EC motor designed especially for medium and larger diameters. The new EC motor completes the range of existing EC axial fans and now offers customers a wider variety of Hidria EC products. Ranging from 300mm up to the new 800mm R14 motor.

SUNON increases LED spotlight active cooling range with launch of 5,000lm module

Effect of Dust & Lint Build-up on Cooling Fan and Heat Sink Performance

This document pertains to HP Notebook PC’s, but is relevant to any Electronic Equipment incorporating ‘Forced Air Cooling’.
The electrical components in a PC generate heat, and fans inside the PC help move the air to keep the components cooled to normal operating temperatures. Inadequate cooling can cause excess heat which forces the fan to run constantly, can damage components, and limit the speed of the CPU. All of these problems with high power and high heat will cause applications to work less efficiently than normal.

The sound of the fan running all the time may the first clue that your PC is not running as efficiently as possible and that you may have a problem with accumulated dust clogging air vents or heat sinks fins.

Dust and lint on heat generating components and fans

Notebook PC’s have vents in the bottom and sides to allow air to flow through the case. If these vents become clogged, or heat generating parts become covered with dust, the fan cannot cool the components properly. Lint and dust accumulation prevents air from flowing around the cooling fins and causes the fan to work harder. If there is dust in the vents, you should clean the computer by blowing out the dust from around the fan and heat sink. This will prevent dust from accumulating as shown below.
